There are various types of service dogs, but for the purpose of simplifying things in this post, I'll cover 6 categories. Keep in mind, though, that within these categories the type of work the dog does can get very specific depending on their handler's needs. The purpose of this post is to give a quick overview of the types and what tasks they may perform. Many people believe that service dogs only help the blind or deaf, but there's so many more disabilities that service dogs can help mitigate. Robbie, as you know, is a mobility dog, and I'll cover what that means here as well. Definitions

I’ve had CRPS for over 11 years. I don’t have family around and pay people to take care of tasks that leaves me too weak or and in pain...I live by myself at 53 years old. I’ve had an Aussie for 3 years who my psychiatrist and I say he is my support animal. Too many people get annoyed with the ESA term cuz they think I/we just want to take our dog with us everywhere. That’s actually true for me and the “job” of my ESA. So how do I get my ESA dog a service dog instead of support? When I have been down on the ground he checks up on me. And he stays with me. He knows when I’m having flare ups. He is an Australian Shepherd and he does need exercise however there are days he won’t want to go (good for me in a way). He takes on a roll of reading me better than I can myself. And I include many of the tasks u have mentioned. How do I get people to stop judging me? How can I go from support to service with CRPS? I currently have paid and downloaded letters for him to be an ESA and as extra “proof” (?) I have had my psychiatrist sign and date and he puts his license info on it as well. Can u help me? CRPS as u know u can’t see lots of the time plus hardly anyone still has not heard of it.

This blog is about my journey training Robbie, a dog who helped me regain independence, confidence, and achieve the impossible in the face of my disability. It continues on with the training of Austin, Robbie's successor. Check Out... - "More than a Dog" was published on a site called The Mighty Categories
