There are 4 D's in training - Distance, Duration, Distraction, & Degree of Difficulty. Distraction is a BIG one for service dog training. You need to know your partner can help you no matter what is going on or what yummy smells permeate the surroundings. The key is to start small and work your way up to larger & more enticing distractions.
There are 2 types of distractions: good ones & bad ones. You want the good ones. Obviously. But sometimes it can be hard to figure out which is which. I will give some examples.
