Every handler I have spoken to about this subject says "YES" & I agree wholeheartedly. There are two reasons to journal:
It can either be super basic or if you're like me (and feel the compulsive need to color code & hyper-organize) it can be multi-faceted & somewhat complicated/overly thorough. Keep in mind, I have no job because of my CRPS. Robbie is my full-time job, so getting hyper-organized also gives me something to extra to do! Above is a photo of Robbie with our training binder. My Plethora of Journaling Formats:
***It's a good idea to keep a log somewhere too of training problems, and health problems. When the problem developed, how it is being treated/sorted out, and when it is solved/cured. This helps the vet or trainer have a better understanding of events (if you are using an outside trainer)*** "I'm not very good at journaling... I've never done it before... How do I do it???"My way of journaling is by no means how you should keep track of your progress with your dog! This is just what works best for me. It took a while for me to figure out what worked best. I originally kept one on the computer because writing is hard for me, but found it easier to keep notes during training if I could physically write things down as I went. Plus, it was easier to take a binder to public locations for training sessions than it was to haul my laptop around. Some people use a recorder and speak their logs. Other people rely solely on a blog. Do what works best for you :)
